MANA WALKING TRAIL![]() |
|
![]() This is a customised mobile walking safari in the Mana Pools National Park. We operate this safari from 01 May to 15 November each year for private parties. A fully licensed, armed professional guide accompanies the group. The actual itinerary will vary according to the wishes and the fitness of the group. This is a fully backed up safari - camp staff travel ahead of the group and set up camp, as well as taking care of all cooking and chores. The actual itinerary for this safari is very flexible, and will depend largely on how much walking guests would like to do. The safari sets out from Ruckomechi aristrip, at the western boundary of Mana Pools National Park, and makes its way into the heart of this great game sanctuary. Guests spend three nights walking through some of the remotest and most game-rich areas of Mana Pools, sleeping in mobile tented camps along the way. The safari ends at Chikwenya airstrip. Wildlife is in abundance in the Mana Pools area, which is particularly famous for the large herds of elephant and buffalo that congregate along the Zambezi River during the dry season. Guests can expect to encounter elephant and buffalo while out walking, as well as a profusion of smaller game such as antelope, baboons, and a wide diversity of bird life. There are also large numbers of predators in the area (particularly lion and leopard), and the spine-tingling sound of lions roaring at night is a feature of Africa that one does not forget in a hurry. Part of the attraction and fun of this safari is that guests have the opportunity to experience wildlife away from vehicles, at exceptionally close quarters, under the direction of fully qualified and experienced guides. Zimbabwe is particularly famous for the quality of its guides - it takes up to four years for guides to complete their training and become fully qualified to lead walking safaris. It is this level of competence that facilitates more exciting and adventurous safaris such as the Mana Walking Trail. ![]() The maximum number of guests on the Mana Walking Trail is eight. This is a camping safari, but a vehicle with staff travels ahead of the canoes and sets up camp prior to guests' arrival at the camping site. They also do all camping chores to make your camping as comfortable as possible. Guests walk from one pre-erected camp to the next. The camp cook and his camp hands are responsible for all meals. Chairs and tables are provided for comfortable dining, and ice is available for drinks. Guests sleep in igloo tents, in which one can stand upright. Comfortable camp beds, linen, blankets, pillows and towels are provided. The campsites have no permanent ablution facilities, but a bucket shower and 'long drop' toilet are set up by the camp staff This is not a safari for the faint of heart - it is specifically for the more adventurous safari enthusiast who wants to experience Africa 'up close and personal'. Reasonable levels of fitness are required (nothing extreme - walks are arranged to be as long or short as the group would like). The Mana Walking Trail is the perfect adventure safari for a family or small group of friends looking for an intimate African experience on foot, led by some of the best guides in Africa. |
