LEOPARD AND LARGE CATS SAFARI |
||
| Lex Hes wrote his book "Leopards of Londolozi" after studying these elusive animals for close on 10 years. He leads this safari through his favorite leopard haunts - Londolozi, Mombo, and Ruckomechi in Mana Pools. Guests have eight nights in incredible wildlife countryside - with a great guide and naturalist. We travel with an aircraft that stays with the group, so we eliminate wasted travel time, and maximize time on the ground in three of Africa's top wildlife areas. Guests will be met on arrival and transferred to Londolozi Private Game Reserve, where accommodation has been reserved for three nights at the lovely Bateleur Camp. Londolozi Bateleur Camp is located on a privately owned 20,000 acre property in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, adjoining the Kruger National Park. Accommodation at Londolozi is superb! It was the first safari lodge to be awarded Relais & Chateaux membership, and is one of the most luxurious lodges in all of Africa. Each of the rooms is tastefully decorated and features a personal bar, an enormous bath, separate shower, twin hand basins, and a private w.c. Other amenities include underfloor heating and air conditioning, which ensures maximum comfort levels year round. Londolozi also has a reputation as one of the best game-viewing reserves on the continent, and is particularly famous for its leopard sightings (this is the location of Lex's famous book 'The Leopards of Londolozi'. Activities at Bateleur Camp include morning and evening game drives in open Land Rovers and guided nature walks. The game-viewing experience is complemented by other activities such as stargazing, bird watching, visits to the camp's staff village, moonlit bush dinners, and private bush breakfasts. In: 02 June 2002 Out: 05 June 2002 Basis: Inclusive of all meals, game activities, laundry and drinks on game drives June 5 to 8: Mombo Camp After the morning game activity and brunch we depart Londolozi Reserve and transfer to Skukuza Airport to connect with a private charter flight to the equally incredible Mombo Camp (flying via Pietersburg and Maun to clear customs). We will spend three unforgettable nights at Mombo. Mombo camp is located in a large shady grove overlooking a vast floodplain that teems with animals. Mombo's nine tents are all superbly appointed; each has en suite facilities and an additional outdoor shower. The guests' rooms and the walkways that connect the rooms to the living areas, are raised about six feet off the ground, allowing game to wander freely through the camp - but at the same time ensuring safety. The dining room, bar, living area and plunge pool, also raised on stilts, boast glorious views over the open plain in front of the camp. Mombo Camp is situated within the Moremi Game Reserve in northern Botswana. The camp offers incredible exclusivity and privacy in the central Okavango, coupled with abundant big game, arguably the best in Botswana. Activities at Mombo include morning and afternoon game drives in open Landrovers. The game viewing in the area is excellent, and the Mombo concession is the choice location for various television documentaries and National Geographic features on African wildlife. Guests could see Lion, Leopard, large herds of Buffalo, Cheetah, Wild Dog, Elephant, Hyena, Giraffe, Wildebeest and Zebra. In: 05 June 2002 Out: 08 June 2002 Basis: Inclusive of all meals, game activities, laundry and drinks (except imported premium brands) June 8 to 10: Ruckomechi Camp After the morning game activity and brunch we depart Mombo Camp and transfer you by light aircraft to Ruckomechi Camp (flying via Kasane and Victoria Falls Airports to clear customs). Accommodation has been reserved for two nights. Ruckomechi is beautifully set in a large grove of Acacia and Mahogany trees overlooking the Zambezi River, with a superb view over the mountains of Africa's Great Rift Valley. The camp consists of ten thatched chalets, with en suite facilities and all amenities to make for a comfortable sojourn. The thatched central dining and living area is set on the river's edge, facing the escarpment. Ruckomechi offers diverse game activities, including game drives in open Landrovers, canoeing, and fishing. Daily game walks with an armed guide are also offered. Predators including Lion, Wild Dog, Leopard, and Cheetah, are often sighted around Ruckomechi, and large concentrations of Buffalo can be found along the river's edges. Kudu, Zebra, Impala and Waterbuck can be seen on the surrounding plains, and Elephant take advantage of the plentiful Albida trees in the area. Bird watching tends to be good, with the river attracting large numbers of waterfowl. In: 08 June 2002 Out: 10 June 2002 Basis: Inclusive of all meals, game activities, laundry and drinks (except imported premium brands) June 10: Safari ends After the morning activity and brunch we depart Ruckomechi Camp and transfer by light aircraft to either Victoria Falls or Harare Airports where the safari ends. |
