XIGERA CAMP

Xigera Camp is located in a very remote corner of the Moremi Game Reserve, in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Set on an island in an area of permanent flood, Xigera offers the perfect environment from which to explore the idyllic beauty of the Delta.

The area around Xigera offers a combination of permanent channels and seasonal floodplains. One of the highlights of the area is the relatively high concentration of the extremely shy and elusive sitatunga antelope. Silently stalking sitatunga in a mekoro is an experience not soon to be forgotten. The area also teems with red lechwe, and is rich in birdlife, while lion and leopard move between the islands, ambushing prey in the long grass and forests. When the annual flood recedes, herds of buffalo move into the area to take advantage of the lush floodplains.

The Camp consists of eight attractively furnished tented rooms, with en suite facilities. Each is raised off the ground on a wooden deck, which allows for superb views of the floodplain to the east of camp and its active waterhole. Raised wooden walkways connect the tents with the main lodge, which is situated under thatch overlooking the river that flows past the front of camp. These raised wooden decks limit the camp's ecological impact on the natural surroundings, and facilitate the movement of animals through the camp while ensuring guest safety. There is a plunge pool for cooling off during the day.

Depending on water levels, Xigera offers both land and water-based activities. Mekoro rides are a highlight, and provide the most silent and peaceful way of experiencing this miraculous oasis in the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Boat rides allow more expansive exploration of the wilderness setting, while nature walks, and game-drives add further diversity to the Xigera experience (water-levels permitting).

Xigera is one of only a handful of safari camps that enjoys the privilege of being located on a private concession in an area of permanent Delta in the Moremi Reserve. In combination with its small size and diverse array of activities, this makes Xigera is a very intimate and special water-based camp.
