THE RIVER CLUB

Each beautiful two-tier chalet is positioned right on the banks of the Zambezi

As the number of large hotels in the immediate vicinity of Victoria Falls explodes, discerning travelers are increasingly looking for destinations from where they can enjoy the amazing spectacle of the Falls, but escape the madding crowds and the incessant buzzing of helicopters. Set in indigenous bush and forest, right on the banks of the Zambezi River, and twenty kilometers upstream from the Falls on the Zambian side, the River Club offers a tranquil and romantic retreat from which to experience the full magic of 'Mosi-oa-Tunya' ('the smoke that thunders') and the mighty Zambezi River.

The main lodge is decorated according to a colonial theme

The lodge itself has been built true to African Colonial style with high ceilings, and a lovely wide veranda running around the building. Deep white wicker settees and rocking chairs, parlor games, a library and, of course, the beautiful view ensure hours of relaxed pleasure; the services of a very attentive bartender will ensure that every whim is catered for. The sunsets from River Club are spectacular and unforgettable!

The chalets are gorgeous, with spectacular views across the Zambezi

Each of the ten thatched chalets are individually and tastefully decorated. They are self-contained, private and open to the splendor of the Zambezi; each chalet is built at two levels, with bedroom and deck upstairs, and bathroom downstairs. Bathing in a large Victorian tub, with an unobstructed view across the languid Zambezi, is an experience not to be forgotten. Leave your blinds up at night and fall asleep to the lapping of the river, the gentle touch of a cool breeze, and the distant lullaby of the African bush.

Dinner is hosted either on the veranda or in the main dining room. Smartly-dressed waiters with white gloves will serve you a well prepared and elegantly presented meal. Enjoy after-dinner drinks on the veranda or in the garden, where an impromptu game of candlelight croquet is not unusual.

The mighty Victoria Falls

Activities at the River Club focus on the Zambezi River and the Victoria Falls. You will have the opportunity to enjoy personally guided tours of the Falls on the Zambian side, and you will also be offered a host of activities on the quiet stretch of river on which the Lodge is located - bird-watching, fishing for Tiger Fish, and enjoying sundowner cruises on the river are some of the main highlights.

Sunset across the Zambezi

The Zambezi River above the Victoria Falls is so peaceful and tranquil that it is hard to conceive of the thundering cauldron of the Falls. Watching the sun set over the river with the calling of birds, the snorting of hippos, and the trumpeting of elephants while sipping your favorite cocktail, it's not too difficult to imagine that you have discovered paradise.

A pool with a view

With its high vantage point on the bank, the River Club looks across the river onto Zimbabwe's Zambezi National Park, and large herds of elephant and buffalo can often be seen from the lodge coming down to the water to drink. Game-drives in the adjacent Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, trips to historical Livingstone (including the Livingstone and Railway Museums), and a visit to a local village and market are other wonderful ways to wile away your time, as you relax and absorb the magic around you.
