OLD HALLIWELL COUNTRY INN

Old Halliwell is situated in the heart of Kwazulu-Natal's lush Midlands, with unsurpassed views over the misty Klarkloof Valley. The old stone building, a typical gracious Natal veranda home dating back to the 1830's, was known as "Stephen's Post" on the original wagon route from Durban to the "Interior." After a long and colourful history, this unique country house has blossomed into an attractive, warm and welcoming Country Inn.

Old Halliwell has seven standard rooms, two luxury rooms and six luxury suites (one a lovely honeymoon suite), all of which have en-suite bathrooms, private patios and fireplaces. They are individually and tastefully decorated with fine fabrics and refurbished antiques. When you enter your room for the first time you will find a lovely decanter of sherry, glasses and a plate of cut fruit waiting for you, to help you unwind after your journey. Afterwards, complete the relaxation process with a soak in the wonderfully deep claw footed tub surrounded by botanical soaps and oils.

Meet for pre-dinner drinks and hors d'oeuvres in Steven's Bar with its thick walls, heavy wooden bar and cosy fireplace. Then, move into the dining room, full of fresh flowers and wonderful aromas that promise a very special gastronomic experience. This room has the look and feel of Tuscany, with its original exposed walls, terracotta tile floors, dark green wrought iron chairs and floor to ceiling windows. Dinner in your room or on your patio can also be arranged. Wake up to a divine breakfast of creative omelettes, home-made muffins and pastries, and bowls of freshly cut fruit.

Guests at Old Halliwell are within close proximity of 5 superb golf courses, some of which are among the best in South Africa. Horse-riding through this beautiful countryside at the foothills of the Drakensberg can be arranged, as can tours to the great Sani Pass over the Drakensberg Mountains into the Kingdom of Lesotho. Old Halliwell is also just 90 minutes' drive from Giant's Castle, one of the most scenic parts of the entire Drakensberg Mountain Range.
