The Mana Pools National Park is arguably Zimbabwe's wildest and most scenic game reserve. Inhospitable and unsuitable for agriculture, the Zambezi Valley is very sparsely populated by humans, and represents a vast and beautiful wilderness area; the Zambezi River, devoid of any form of industry or major settlement along its entire course, is itself one of the last wild and unspoiled major rivers in the world. The Mana Pools area, flanked by the tail-end of the Great Rift Valley and traversed by the mighty Zambezi, was recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its outstanding natural beauty and wealth of wildlife.
