LINYANTI TENTED CAMP

The camp is right on the banks of the River

Linyanti Tented Camp is located on the banks of the Linyanti River, in the vast Linyanti Private Reserve adjoining Chobe National Park. The Linyanti Reserve encompasses over a quarter of a million acres of pristine wilderness, with habitat ranging from the Linyanti Marshes to riverine forest, open floodplains, and mopane woodland.

Elephant drinking from the Linyanti River

Such diverse habitats in turn support a great diversity of game - the area is most famous for the enormous herds of elephant that congregate around the Linyanti River and its lagoons during the dry season, as well as for high concentrations of predators (particularly lion, cheetah, and the endangered African painted wolf). Buffalo, zebra, and a host of other plains game are common , while rare species such as sable and roan antelope also occur on the Reserve. The Linyanti River is home to hippo and crocodile, as well as a profusion of birdlife.

Camp is built right on the banks of the Linyanti River

The camp itself is a wonderfully small and intimate tented camp, sleeping a maximum of eight guests in five comfortable tents. Common areas include a dining room, bar, and sitting area. The camp is nestled into the forest along the banks of the Linyanti River, and enjoys wonderful views across the River and onto the floodplain beyond.

The comfortable tent interiors

The tents themselves are large, with full real beds, closet space, and full en-suite facilities, including hot and cold running water, showers, and flush toilets. The tents are well spaced, further enhancing the camp's sense of intimacy and privacy.

The king of the beasts

Linyanti offers a wide range of activities, led by professional guides. Game-drives are conducted in specially adapted open Landrovers carrying a maximum of seven guests. Because Linyanti Camp falls outside the boundaries of Chobe Park, activities are not limited to the rules and regulations of Chobe, and the camp also offers guided walks and night-drives. Guests can also enjoy canoeing on the larger lagoons, and boating on the smaller waterways along the Linyanti River. The extremely small size of Linyanti Tented Camp makes for fantastic flexibility, and activities can be tailor-made to preference.

Linyanti Tented Camp is one of Botswana's smallest and most intimate safari camps. It is a traditional tented safari camp, offering all necessary comforts without being overly elaborate. It also has a real 'wilderness' atmosphere, and game is commonly encountered in camp as animals come down to the Linyanti River to drink. In all, Linyanti offers an exceptional and authentic safari experience in a very game rich private reserve.

Ecotourism angle

The concession to the Linyanti Reserve belongs to a leading southern Africa conservation figure, and the reserve is managed by Wilderness Safaris, one of the most ecologically-minded camp operators in southern Africa. Although hunting is technically permitted on the concession, the owner and managers have waived their rights to allow hunting on the Reserve, thereby foregoing around US$300,000 in annual revenues so that the animals have the best possible opportunity to prosper, and guests have the best possible game-viewing experience. Staff are also involved in game counts and censuses to monitor the conservation efforts on the reserve.
