LINKWASHA CAMP

A storm approaches across the Savanna

Linkwasha Camp is located on a private concession in the south east of the great Hwange National Park. The area around Linkwasha is characterized by enormous, open grass plains, dotted with Ilala Palms, teak trees, and acacias, making for an incredibly attractive setting.

A herd of elephants comes to drink at one of the watering holes

Like its sister camp Makololo Plains, Linkwasha is located on a prime concession within Hwange, characterized by a great diversity of habitat forms, from Kalahari sandveld, to miombo woodland, teak forests, grasslands and acacia bushveld. The abundant and diverse vegetation in turn supports great numbers of herbivores, including huge herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as rarer species such as sable and roan antelope, and eland. As in any stable African eco-system, the wealth of herbivores attracts predators in great numbers, and lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena are regulars.

A hide at a watering hole in front of camp

Activities at Linkwasha focus very much on Hwange's abundant wildlife, with game-drives, nature walks, and game-viewing from the many hides on the concession. An enormous grass plain and waterhole directly in front of camp makes for excellent game-viewing right from guests' tents, and the opportunity to venture out into Hwange's wilderness with the highly trained and experienced Zimbabwe guides makes for a very special African safari experience. Being inside Hwange is a great advantage, as guests' game-viewing starts right at their doorstep, while privacy and exclusivity are guaranteed because Linkwasha is on a private concession, away from the public sections of the park.

The beautiful view from camp

Linkwasha is divided into two distinct and independent camps - one with seven tented rooms and one with three. The rooms in both are large and comfortable with canvas sides and thatched roofs. Each has en suite facilities as well as an outdoor shower. Raised wooden walkways link the rooms to a main lodge, which features a living room, bar, dining area, swimming pool, and an expansive balcony which overlooks the vast grassy plain.

Hwange National Park is a must for any safari through Zimbabwe; few camps make a more ideal base for experiencing the magic of Hwange than Linkwasha Camp, which is private, intimate, very comfortable, and extremely well located within this great African reserve.

The plains of Africa

Linkwasha Camp is run as a partnership between Wilderness Safaris and a local entrepreneur. As a private concession within the Park, Linkwasha is responsible for all conservation-related maintenance on the concession. This includes game monitoring, building fire-breaks and putting out fires, and upkeep of the crucial bore-holes that are the lifeline of the Park's wildlife during the dry winter months. Wilderness Safaris enjoys a reputation as one of southern Africa's leading proponents of ecotourism, and is involved in a number of projects across the region. A portion of each guest's fare is also allocated to the "Wilderness Safaris Wildlife Trust"; 100% of these funds are allocated to approved conservation projects. .
