KAFUE NATIONAL PARKPORTFOLIO |
|
Comprising nearly 9,000 square miles of protected wilderness, Kafue is Africa's largest National Park. Kafue is comprised of a stunning diversity of habitat types, from miombo woodland through Kalahari Sandveld, and dambo pans. Due largely to the difficulties inherent in patrolling such a vast area, and the fact that it is all but impassable to game scouts and safari operators during the wet season, Kafue has been particularly hard hit by poachers. Compounding the challenges Kafue faces as a safari destination, miombo woodland is difficult game-viewing country, while providing an ideal habitat for the bothersome tsetse fly. Nevertheless, for the somewhat more adventurous safari enthusiasts, Kafue offers a wonderful diversity of mammal and bird species, including numerous endemics, and some magical surprises. The Lunga River is an unspoiled paradise, and the Busanga Plains are an undiscovered gem, with dense concentrations of game and unique tree-climbing lions.
