HONEYGUIDE TENTED SAFARI CAMP![]() |
|
| Honeyguide Tented Camp, nestled in a riverine forest in the Manyeleti Game Reserve, is reminiscent of the early twentieth century hunting safari camp. With only twelve large canvas tents divided between two camps, the atmosphere is intimate, private and tranquil. The Manyeleti Game Reserve is located on the western boundary of South Africa's great Kruger National Park. The Kruger Park (a 5.5 million acre sanctuary for wildlife, bigger than Wales or Massachusetts) is widely regarded as Africa's premier game reserve, and has been described as "no longer merely a national asset. It is part of a dwindling global treasure, the collective natural heritage of mankind". The Manyeleti Reserve is one of the most game-rich parts of the greater Kruger eco-system, and is home to Africa's 'big five' (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo), as well as hundreds of other species of African animals, including well-known species like zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, cheetah, and a host of others. Game-drive safaris at Honeyguide are conducted in specially adapted open Landrovers carrying a maximum of nine guests, with professional guides and trackers to help find animals, and then provide interesting background information and facts about Africa's spectacular wildlife.
Honeyguide also offers night drives with spot lamps to view nocturnal species. Honeyguide places a lot of emphasis on walking safaris with your guide and tracker, a unique experience which provides even deeper and more 'hands-on' insight into the many intricate eco-systems of the African bush. All guides and trackers are carefully chosen for their knowledge and experience of the bush, and receive extensive training to ensure that your encounters with the African wilderness are exciting, informative, and safe.
The
en-suite accommodation is basic but very tasteful and comfortable, with an
emphasis on quality. For example, the sheets are fine white cotton, bedspreads
are hunter green canvas ticking, and all taps and water pipes are copper.
Furnishings in each tent include a sturdy wicker chair and heavy teak tables.
There is a lovely wooden commode in the bathroom and a tin bathtub set in
moulded clay with antique taps. Electricity is provided and lamps take the form
of unobtrusive kerosene lanterns.
We think Honeyguide offers very good value for money, and would highly recommend it to the budget conscious traveller or those simply seeking an old fashioned safari experience. |
