Damaraland constitutes the northern portion of the Namib Desert, just inland from the Skeleton Coast. Quite in contrast to the rest of the Namib, the terrain at Damaraland is mountainous and rocky, providing endless vistas of a multi-hued and rugged landscape, untamed as far as the eye can see. The Brandberg - Namibia's highest mountain - shimmers to the south, while the ephemeral Huab River is probably the best place in Africa to catch a glimpse of the rare desert-adapted elephant.
