THE ROMANCE OF THE CAPE WINELANDS![]() |
|
![]() The Cape's charming historic elegance is reminiscent of Southern France or Tuscany in character. Life is taken at a more leisurely pace. People cultivate and appreciate the finer points of life: good friends, good food and good wine. Lush green valleys, layered with vineyards, are dotted with white washed Cape-Dutch houses, many of which serve as family-run pensiones. Inside, find wide-board yellow wood floors, lead glass windows, and wonderful collections of art and antiques.
Dining is a highlight! Begin outdoors at sunset with aperitifs on the lawn. Crusty loaves of bread and native olives set the Mediterranean tone. Dinner is served in the dining room on a huge candle-lit yellow wood table, or al fresco, overlooking the vineyards. There are several tantalizing courses and generous portions, each served with appropriate wines, of course. Specialities of the area include succulent karoo lamb, fish fresh from the ocean and pungent Cape Malay dishes. Afterwards, retire with a brandy or coffee to a crackling fire in the living room, if cool, or outside on the lawn - and perhaps enjoy a moonlit game of croquet. After a long day of wine-tasting, whale watching, site seeing and gorgeous food, collapse into a teak sleigh bed fitted with luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets. But, not before enjoying the decadent chocolate inevitably left on your pillow. Back to Liyatshwa Safaris Romance or The Cape of Good Hope or Wine Region Portfolio of Properties |
